Knowing the Art of the Possible: Andy Moss on the Insurance Coffee House Podcast

We’re thrilled to share that Send’s CEO and co-founder, Andy Moss, was recently featured on the Insurance Coffee House podcast. In a candid and insightful conversation with host Nick Hoadley, Andy explores the evolving role of underwriting, the value of intelligent workflows, and what it takes to drive meaningful change in insurance.

Andy’s journey, spanning nearly three decades in software development, system architecture, and insurance operations, sets the stage for his mission at Send: transforming commercial and specialty underwriting by enabling carriers to bridge legacy systems with future-ready workflows.

“Our big play around this is the ecosystem and having the ability for customers to buy something that's commoditized and does the core workflows, but they specialize with their secret sauce in terms of how they connect things together and what order they do things in.,” Andy explains.

The podcast delves into why Send exists and the real-world problems it's solving. Specifically, the fragmentation of tools and workflows that underwriters juggle every day. Andy shares how Send’s underwriting workbench brings structure, visibility, and automation to underwriting teams across the UK and the U.S., especially in complex, specialty lines.

“There's a lot of companies that have spreadsheet based systems or they've knocked another system into shape to do a job it wasn't designed for. But really, if you're running a growing portfolio with lots of people, lots of systems, lots of data flowing around, you need dedicated tech for this and that's really what we provide.”

From automating unstructured data flows to leveraging large language models, Andy emphasizes the importance of operationalizing innovation in underwriting. It’s not just about adding more tools; it’s about making them work together in a meaningful way.

Another standout moment from the episode touches on “the art of the possible”: how blending industry experience with deep tech knowledge can unlock truly transformative change. Andy offers a compelling call to action for insurance professionals with domain expertise to get involved in shaping the future:

“There’s huge value in people who know the business (underwriters, operations folks) bringing their insights into insuretech. That business knowledge can’t be taught, but it can transform technology when combined with the right platform.”

With clients across the London Market and North America, including scale-up success stories like Bowhead Specialty, Send is proving that underwriting transformation doesn’t have to mean disruption. It means connection.
