In the coming years, technology and AI systems will fundamentally transform how insurers approach underwriting. While these new capabilities promise unique opportunities, their true potential can only be realised when built upon a foundation of operational excellence.

As we pass the midpoint of 2025, we’ve been reflecting on how insurers can best prepare for this. The answer lies in mastering the ‘brilliant basics’ to unlock value downstream. Even the most sophisticated technology and AI is only as powerful as the data quality, workflow efficiency, and core underwriting infrastructure that supports it.

It may seem counterintuitive, but the more you focus on strong fundamentals, the more freedom you have for more sophisticated underwriting capabilities.

Bad quality data sent to AI models leads to unreliable and dangerous results, especially if underwriters trust outputs based on inaccurate inputs. Regardless of whether you use AI, the same ‘rubbish in, rubbish out’ applies.

Insurers that get the basics right will be better positioned to take advantage of technology and AI as a genuine competitive advantage. Those who do not will find even the most advanced technologies falling short on their promises to deliver value.

Our latest product enhancements demonstrate our commitment to positioning Send as the intelligent data spine of your underwriting, while simultaneously expanding our capabilities to give you the ability to be more creative and strategic in your underwriting.

Here are a few of our Q1 and Q2 2025 product highlights:

Dashboards for faster insights

We’ve re-designed our dashboards to significantly improve the underwriting experience with enhanced views and access to data. Underwriters can configure their dashboards based on their own preferences to prioritise the most critical information to help them make better decisions, faster.

Our new quick filters and improved ad-hoc filtering capabilities make it easier to slice through large volumes of risks and find exactly what you’re looking for. This enhanced quick search function enables instant access to policies and risks across your entire portfolio.

One of our most requested features is the ability to “peek” into a risk with a detailed view of the risk without leaving the dashboard view. This streamlines the review process and keeps underwriters in ‘flow’ without switching screens.

Improved submission management

Managing email submissions with increasingly complex and unstructured data continues to be a significant challenge for underwriting teams. Our Smart Submission functionality gives underwriters the ability to rapidly ingest and organise this data, but we also recognise that every underwriter brings a unique perspective when it comes to assessing these risks.

To help underwriters leverage their expertise, our latest enhancements enable greater customisation to ‘prompts’ for improved results and precise source attribution to see exactly where the suggested data was found within submission.

This helps underwriters find what they are looking for quickly and eliminate some of the guesswork around submission data.

We’ve enhanced our AI-powered submission capabilities with greater configurability across all prompts—introducing new elements that allow for more precise tuning based on your underwriting needs. These improvements deliver more accurate results with less manual effort, helping teams move faster through the submission process with greater confidence.

Faster document generation

Our Document Generation feature allows underwriters to generate quotes, policies, and regulatory documents on demand within the workflow. These connect to your clause library to avoid rekeying, with dynamic previews that enable real-time adjustments.

Our latest enhancements focus on template management, workflow integration, and improvements to the admin capabilities. Specifically, the ability to set partial templates that allow use of common terms and structures across your document portfolio, significantly reducing the creation and maintenance effort of your documentation. We’ve also extended our customer-specific capabilities to include logic that appends supporting documents based on your business rules.

These enhancements reduce manual document creation and help you maintain consistency throughout your underwriting process.

Configurable task templates

We’ve refined the user experience for task templates based on extensive feedback from underwriting teams – helping teams to assign, monitor, and track tasks more effectively. These improvements focus on making template selection more intuitive and reducing the manual effort required for task management.

Our latest enhancements make it easier to configure standard task activities as predefined templates and make it quicker and easier to create and complete sub-tasks as part of more complex task activities. These improvements enable teams to work faster and more consistently with more suitable templates and checklists for each type of risk or action.

Capture underwriter rationale

Our Underwriter Rationale feature enables underwriters to record their observations and decision reasoning as part of the standard workflow, creating a clear audit trail that improves transparency and collaboration between team members.

This centralised approach to capturing underwriting logic helps teams maintain consistency, reduce corporate amnesia, and make more informed decisions when reviewing risks.

Whether there’s nuances around a particular risk or someone is reviewing an older submission, having access to this context can significantly impact how risks are assessed and rated going forward.

Visualise more asset data

We’re able to visualise large volumes of asset data for a more intelligent way to view portfolio composition and geographic risk distribution. This includes TIV (Total Insured Value) in an intuitive interface for a better understanding of your risks.

We’ve expanded the limit of the individual assets to help support the most extensive insurance portfolios.

Rater Integrations

Our rating capabilities continue to evolve at pace with both our O365 and hyperexponential’s integrations seeing improved workflow and status synchronisation between platforms. These enhancements include notifications for key policy status changes and flagging rater inconsistencies, ensuring data stays aligned throughout the underwriting process. This creates a more seamless and consistent workflow between your workbench and chosen rating tool.

Looking forward

There is no doubt that AI and technology will continue to reshape the insurance landscape, but these innovations are usually more modest than the headlines suggest.

Insurers who build from a position of operational strength will find it easier to drive innovation within their underwriting teams. As each wave of new capabilities arrive, they will be ready to implement strategically rather than scrambling to catch up.

In the meantime, we will continue enhancing our platform to ensure you are prepared not just for today’s challenges, but for tomorrow’s opportunities. If you would like to see any of the above in action, please get in touch.
